The many benefits of taking out a personal loan with Salt & Lime

There are many reasons why Australian borrowers choose Salt & Lime as their lender. We believe everyone deserves access to fast and secure funding, regardless of their financial past. Salt & Lime issues personal loans for borrowers with all kinds of credit histories, from good to bad.

Whether you’re interested in a personal loan, car loan or debt consolidation loan, here are some of the benefits you can look forward to:

  • Debt consolidation loans can reduce monthly bills. Not only can this save more money in the long run, but short term loans lasting 5 years or less could help you reach debt-free goals faster than ever.

  • Many debt consolidation loans reduce your overall interest and tax burdens, allowing you to save more money every month.

  • Loans with smaller term lengths (5 years or less) allow you to become debt-free in less time.

  • Personal loans from Salt & Lime allow you to receive rate discounts with the completion of financial wellness modules.

  • Fast turnaround. Once approved, you could have the funds deposited into your account within 24 hours.

  • Option to have loan payments collected directly from your employer.

  • No early repayment penalties or ongoing fees.

Know where you stand with your loan application

While we have our loan eligibility criteria, we encourage all borrowers to consider their own personal eligibility before applying. Our loans are designed to help you reach your financial goals. For instance, consolidating your debt should allow you to regain control of your finances, helping you achieve financial freedom.

Before checking your personal, car or debt consolidation eligibility, ask yourself:

  • Am I borrowing too much? Double-check the amount you need to borrow, to ensure you don’t bite off more than you can chew.

  • Could you pay off your loan within 5 years or less? Salt & Lime offers personal loan terms for up to five years. You must ensure your budget will be able to handle regular repayments.

  • If you are taking out a debt consolidation loan, would consolidating your debt provide you with substantial interest rate savings? Your next lending opportunity should be a blessing rather than a burden to your budget.

Understanding your loan eligibility

Personal loan eligibility at Salt & Lime is designed to be accessible and informative. Australian citizens and permanent residents can apply for a debt consolidation loan if they meet the following requirements.

  • What is personal financial wellbeing?
Personal finance wellbeing has many definitions, as financial wellness and freedom look different to everyone. For some, personal financial wellbeing means attaining financial security at a young age and being able to retire early. For others, financial wellbeing means paying off debt so they can access greater financial opportunities or developing positive money management skills they’ll put into practice for years to come.
  • How do you ensure financial wellbeing?
You can ensure financial wellbeing by taking a 360-degree approach to your finances. This means setting up your finances in a way where every aspect of your financial ecosystem is taken care of, from implementing a realistic budget that allows you to live comfortably to investing wisely for long-term growth. It’s also important to regularly review your budget and financial routine to ensure it is still working for you and your lifestyle. Financial freedom isn’t about working within unrealistic restraints — it’s about finding the balance between living the life you love and working towards the life you want.
  • Why is money important for overall wellbeing?
Like it or not, money plays a massive role in our overall wellbeing. When not managed properly, money can be a big stressor that can leak into other areas of our lives. Having control and knowledge over where and when your money is going puts us in a position of empowerment where we make smarter decisions regarding our finances, from investments to budgets.
  • What are three ways to be financially responsible?
You can become more financially responsible in three core ways: regularly saving, working within a budget and debt prioritisation. Take the time to create a detailed budget to track income and expenses, ensuring financial priorities, such as bills and living expenses, are met before delegating a portion of your salary to savings for emergencies and future goals. You can also start minimising your debt levels by slowly chipping away with monthly repayments.
  • What are your fees, penalties, and interest rates?
We have zero fees, and no penalties if you would like to increase your repayment amount, or repay your loan early. Our interest rates start at 20.50% (APR 19.46%) across all loan types. Your final interest rate will be personalised, and dependent on several different factors, including information contained in your credit report and bank statements. All interest rates are fixed for the life of your loan, and will reduce as you complete your financial education modules.
  • Where can I see my current loan balance?
You can see your account balance once you log in to your Salt & Lime hub. Please note, it may take a few days for repayments to be processed and reflected in your remaining balance.
  • Can I get discounts on my loan?
Absolutely - in fact, we encourage it! Throughout the duration of your loan, we will send you 12 financial modules to complete. Each module is quick and informative - and can be done and submitted in under 5 minutes. The modules will aim to deepen your knowledge of financial products, how to manage your income and expenses, and many other key topics. After completing each module, an interest rate discount will be applied to your loan. Most modules will earn you a 0.25% discount, while the first two modules are worth a whopping 1% together in interest discounts. With 12 modules to complete, you could be saving hundreds of dollars over the life of your loan!
